A company that has stood for reliability, innovation, and strong regional roots for 40 years – this is how the development of our SCIO site in Osterhofen (Lower Bavaria) can be summed up. What began as a small business has grown into a high-performance specialist for automation and warehouse solutions, successfully operating in many markets today while remaining true to its origins.
This year, the 40th anniversary provided the perfect occasion to reflect on this remarkable development and to honor the people who made it possible. During a celebratory event, employees, long-time companions, and representatives from politics and business came together to look back on four successful decades of company history.
The development of the site represents far more than numbers, milestones, and successful projects: it is shaped by vision, determination, and a team that has continuously grown beyond itself. This combination has transformed the site from a small one-person operation in 1985 into an internationally competitive provider of automation and warehouse solutions — and into a strong part of the SCIO Automation Group.
Schiller's company founder Ewald Schiller emphasized in his retrospective that perseverance, trust in the team, and the ability to overcome setbacks were key pillars of success. What once began with only a few employees gradually developed into an established mid-sized company with around 300 employees in the Deggendorf district and is now an integral part of the SCIO Automation Group. Today, the regional portfolio includes not only customized automation systems, but also autonomous mobile robotics, cleanroom solutions, and the role of general contractor for complex warehouse projects.
Promoting Young Talent and Developing Skilled Workers
A special priority—then and now—has been the development of young talent. In the company’s own training academy, around 30 apprentices are supported each year on their path into professional life—ensuring that the skilled workers of tomorrow are nurtured and developed.
The anniversary celebration placed particular emphasis on employee appreciation: their dedication and team spirit have made the company’s decades-long success possible in the first place. To properly honor their contribution, employees celebrated the 40th anniversary in September with a special outing to the Jochen Schweizer Arena in Munich.
Managing Director Thomas Thalhammer emphasizes: “Our employees are the heart of our company. This anniversary was not only a look back at 40 years of success, but also a way to say thank you to everyone who contributes to that success every single day. That’s why we wanted to celebrate in a big way and create an unforgettable day together.”
The Osterhofen site proudly looks back on four decades — and with just as much energy toward what lies ahead. As part of the SCIO Automation Group, it will continue to pursue its mission of successfully supporting companies on their journey toward Industry 4.0.
