Future-proof intralogistics: new logistics center for Bosch Rexroth
With the construction of a highly automated logistics center at the Bosch Rexroth AG site in Lohr, SCIO Automation has implemented a modern intralogistics solution designed for long-term efficiency, process transparency, and growth. The intralogistics experts at SCIO Automation handled the end-to-end implementation, from planning and development through to installation and commissioning of the system. The automated and customized logistics structure expands Bosch Rexroth’s warehouse capacity while also laying the groundwork for flexibly meeting future requirements.
Holistic system integration as a key to success
This was achieved through the implementation of a fully automated high-bay and small-parts warehouse, as well as the integration of all trades starting from the floor slab. The overall concept was complemented by a customer-specific warehouse management system, including a material flow computer and the integration of workstations and automated transport systems. SCIO Automation’s holistic approach enabled the seamless integration of all processes and logistics systems.
Capacity expansion through modern intralogistics
The future-proof logistics center has tripled the storage capacity at the site and comprises approximately 10,000 pallet storage locations as well as about 63,000 storage locations for small load carriers. As part of the new construction, the intralogistics experts at SCIO Automation replaced an existing high-bay warehouse dating from 1986. It was replaced by a fully automated shipping and order-picking solution in which storage, transport, and retrieval of goods are seamlessly integrated. Components from the Rexroth ctrlX AUTOMATION platform were used to automate the new logistics center. This enables Bosch Rexroth to achieve a significant increase in system efficiency.

Intelligent material flow and resource-efficient processes
Anyone seeking to design efficient logistics processes while saving energy must simplify workflows and consistently automate them. Therefore, intelligentconveyor technology supports order picking, while automated storage and retrieval machines handle the storage and retrieval of pallets and small-item carriers. The material flow has been designed to operate quickly, reliably, and with the least possible use of resources. Pallets are automatically transferred to automated guided vehicles (AGVs), which further accelerates the processes. The transfer of pallets to AGVs is automated, which speeds up the processes. Technologies such as energy recovery during braking contribute to sustainable operations and significant cost savings.

Continuous improvement through real-time monitoring
In addition, SCIO Automation’s EDY material flow software lays the foundation for transparent, data-driven control of intralogistics. The software collects and visualizes operational data in real time, connects the physical plant environment with the digital world, and makes processes traceable during operation. This enables Bosch Rexroth to continuously optimize logistics and production processes and fully leverage the potential of its intralogistics.
Tailored solution for complex requirements
The logistics center in Lohr combines different types of cargo – from pallets and cartons to small load carriers – into a single integrated system. Based on a custom-developed logistics and IT concept, SCIO Automation developed a solution precisely tailored to Bosch Rexroth’s requirements. The combination of automation, digitalization, and scalable system architecture ensures that the facility can respond flexibly to future market demands.
